Terms of service

The rules for reading, writing, buying coins, and getting paid on Bookery.

1.Agreement to these terms

These terms form an agreement between you and Bookery Inc. ("Bookery", "we", "us") covering your use of the Bookery website, apps, and public API. By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use Bookery.

Writers who sign a publishing contract on Bookery are also bound by that contract. Where the contract and these terms conflict, the signed contract governs the book it covers.

2.Accounts

You must provide accurate information, keep your password confidential, and be old enough to form a binding contract where you live. You are responsible for activity on your account.

Reader and writer accounts are separate. Editor, moderator, and admin accounts are created by invitation only. We may require you to verify your email address before using some features.

3.Coins and purchases

Coins are a limited licence to unlock chapters, send gifts, and use paid features inside Bookery. They have no cash value, cannot be withdrawn or transferred between accounts, and are not a deposit or stored-value product.

Prices are shown in your selected reading currency before you pay. Payments are processed by our payment providers. Coins are credited once the provider confirms the payment. Coin purchases and chapter unlocks are final except where the law requires otherwise or a charge was made in error; contact us if you believe that happened.

Coins earned from daily check-ins, streaks, or promotions may carry conditions shown when they are offered.

4.Writers, royalties, and payouts

Writers keep ownership of their work. Publishing rights, royalty rates, bonuses, and exclusivity are set out in the contract you sign, and the terms in force at signing are recorded with that contract.

Royalties from chapter unlocks and gifts are credited to your writer balance in USD. You can request a payout once your balance reaches the minimum shown in your account. Payouts are made to the bank or USDC wallet details you provide; you are responsible for their accuracy and for any taxes due on your earnings.

We may withhold or reverse earnings that result from fraud, chargebacks, or a breach of these terms or your contract.

5.Your content

You keep ownership of the books, chapters, comments, and other content you post. You grant Bookery a worldwide, non-exclusive licence to host, display, format, and distribute that content to operate and promote the service. For published books, the licence continues for as long as your contract says it does.

You confirm you have the rights to everything you post and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.

6.Acceptable use

You must not:

  • post content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, or sexualises minors;
  • copy, scrape, redistribute, or capture paid chapters outside Bookery;
  • infringe copyright or pass off another person's work as your own;
  • manipulate rankings, ratings, gifts, or referrals, or create accounts to do so;
  • interfere with the service, probe it for vulnerabilities without permission, or exceed API rate limits.

7.Moderation and enforcement

Anyone can report a book, chapter, comment, or account. Our moderators review reports and may hide content, take down books, or suspend accounts that break these terms. Where we act on your content or account we will tell you what happened and why, unless doing so would be unlawful or put others at risk.

8.Developer API

Access to the public API is subject to the rate limits and pricing published on the developer page. API keys are personal; keep them secret and revoke any key you believe has been exposed. We may suspend keys that are abused.

9.Disclaimers and liability

Bookery is provided "as is". We work to keep it available and accurate but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded.

10.Closing your account

You can stop using Bookery at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms. Writer earnings that are due at closure will be paid in line with your contract, less any amounts we are entitled to withhold.

11.Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Bookery after the change means you accept it.

12.Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of the applicable platform jurisdiction. Questions about these terms can be sent to legal@bookery.com.
